Crochet This!

I love to crochet, even though I’m just now starting to get the hang of it.  Previously, I had only made scarves.  Right now though, I’m making this lovely blanket whose pattern was given on the back of the yarn I bought by Red Heart brand.

Pretty Crochet Blanket

Isn’t it beautiful?  If you’ve never done crocheting before, don’t worry.  It’s actually really easy to learn as long as you have the abbreviations and look up the stitches.  Learning the abbreviations is the hardest part…crocheters almost have thier own language!  Anyway, if you can read the patterns, here are the directions for this beginners level design:

SB300-003 Diamond Trellis
Throw measures approximately 47 1/2″ x 61″.
RED HEART® “Super Saver®”: 32 Ounces No. 313 Aran.
Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9].
GAUGE: 16 sts = 4 1/2″; 16 rows = 6 3/4″ in pat. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
NOTE: Blanket is worked side to side.
Ch 218. Row 1 (Right Side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; turn – 217 sc.
Row 2: Ch 5, skip first 2 sc, sc in next sc, * ch 5, skip 3 sc, sc in next sc; rep from * to last 2 sc; ch 2, dc in last sc; turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in dc, * ch 5, sc in ch-5 lp; rep from * across, working last sc in 3rd ch of ch-5; turn.
Row 4: Ch 5, sc in ch-5 lp, * 3 dc in next sc, sc in next lp **, ch 5, sc in next lp; rep from * to last sc, end at **; ch 2, dc in last sc; turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in dc, * 3 dc in next sc, skip next dc, sc in next dc, 3 dc in next sc, sc in next lp; rep from * across, end as Row 3.
Row 6: Ch 5, skip next dc, * sc in next dc, 3 dc in next sc, skip next dc, sc in next dc **, ch 5, skip next 3 sts; rep from * to last 2 sts, end at **; ch 2, skip next dc, dc in last sc; turn.
Row 7: Ch 1, sc in dc, * ch 5, skip next dc, sc in next dc, ch 5, sc in next lp; rep from * across, end as Row 3.
Row 8: Ch 4, sc in lp, * ch 3, sc in lp; rep from * to last sc; ch 1, dc in last sc; turn.
Row 9: Ch 1, sc in dc, sc in ch-1 sp, sc in sc, * 3 sc in ch-3 sp, sc in sc; rep from * to last sp; sc in next sp, sc in 3rd ch of ch-4; turn – 217 sc.
Rep Rows 2-9 thirteen more times; with right side still facing, work sc edging evenly across top edge. Fasten off. Rep edging on opposite edge. Weave in ends.
Designed by Marilyn Coleman.
ABBREVIATIONS: ch = chain; dc = double crochet; lp = loop; mm = millimeters; pat = pattern; rep = repeat; sc = single crochet; sp = space; st(s) = stitch(es); * or ** = repeat whatever follows the * or ** as indicated.

  2. I am trying to make this afghan and I’m having trouble with row 5.Did you have any trouble with it or is it just me?

  3. i am actually stuck on row 4! i dont even know if i did row 3 correct. this is my very fist crochet project. i dont feel like its going too well :P

    • unfortunately my school work got really busy and I haven’t had much time to work on this…
However, I realized that row five was messed up. I just repeated the first 4 lines and that seemed to work. I think that’s what I did but Im not fully sure.
